Almost Book-a-holic Family

Destination: Fontis Bookstore, Aarau, Switzerland

Bookaholic’s Travel Diary:

It is clear that no matter how much we love exploring the world around us and traveling from one place to another, no one can always be hitting the road again. Firstly, family. It is not always that simple to drag the little kids everywhere with you. Every parent knows the agony… Secondly, our society is just not built that way. One has to go to school, and another one has to work. And then there are tons of other stuff we are supposed to take care of daily. That is life. But what do you do when the road is calling you, and your feet are tied? My solution is to read a good book.

Finding a good book and finding a moment to read it is not always that simple either. But it is worth it. Because a good book can take you anywhere. All you have to do is to grab a book and sit down on your reading chair, and it becomes a time machine or an airplane or a rocket that can take you miles away. The only thing that is limiting you is your imagination!

You can find good books everywhere. You can go to a library or a book store. Even many supermarkets have some books on their shelves. I usually end up going to a book store because I want to own the books I read – yes, I am weird that way. And this probably causes my husband to grow gray hair into his beard too early since I already own 600 books and counting (He already lost all his hair. But that can certainly not be blamed on me… I suppose…) Anyway, I could spend hours in a good bookstore! My favorite at the moment is Fontis, located in Aarau, Switzerland. Everything is arranged beautifully, it is easy to find what one wants, and they have just my kind of selection of books. And they have a nice play area for the kids… only my little monster never stays in the play area but is running around the store like he has pants on fire instead. (Thank you for the patience, dear Fontis people! ;) ) And yes, every time we go to a book store, I end up losing my nerves because of these two cuties. You can call it a miracle, but somehow, so far, we managed without any material damage. And usually, we end up buying something for them instead of buying something for me! Yes, my secret wish is that I could just once go alone. But then again, who else is going to teach my little ones to love books if not me?

Anyway, once I have the perfect book in my hands, I just might end up skipping a goodnight’s sleep and reading the book instead. Now I started with Karen Kingsbury’s fiction, and this is just the type of book series that is going to cause me some sleepless nights. Once I start reading, I just can’t (or don’t want to) stop anymore. My kids are naturally not allowed to read books at night (just thought to mention in case you wondered…), as they are supposed to be sleeping, but the little guy has his reading moments every morning with his tractor books. My princess is especially fascinated by interactive Tiptoi-books and spends a lot of time exploring in the afternoons. And they both get a good night story every evening. The only person in the family so far who is not so absolutely fascinated about the books is my dear husband. Well, maybe the day comes, or not. He doesn’t complain about reading the bedtime stories for the little ones, so we’ll just leave it at that! :)
